Johann Daniel Lotz married Catharina Herzog and they had at least three children, each baptized in the Evangelical Church of Villingen, a village about 68 kilometers north-northeast of Frankfurt am Main: (1) Anna Maria, baptized on 16 March 1757; (2) Johann Heinrich, baptized on 13 July 1759; and (3) Johann Georg, baptized on 3 January 1765.
Johann Daniel Lotz and his family emigrated to Russia, departing from Lübeck aboard the galliot Anna Catharina , with the skipper Daniel Geier at the helm. They arrived at the port in Oranienbaum, Russia, on 12 May 1766.
They settled on 10 May 1767 in the Volga German colony of Kaneau , where they are recorded on the 1767 Census in Household No. 76.
On the 1798 Census, widow Catharina and her family are still living in Kaneau , recorded in Households No. Kn26 & Kn28.
