Description

Christian Schmidt, fourth child of Johann Peter Schmidt (baptized 11 December 1708) and Anna Maria Gross, was baptized 17 February 1746 in Hoch-Weisel, southwest of Butzbach. His parents had been married there on 11 November 1734, and the family lived at Butzbacher Straße 5.

Christian immigrated to Russia, settling in the colony of Susannental on 3 August 1767. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 26 along with his wife, Elisabeth née Becker (age 23).

Christian died and his wife remarried to Martin Rittger. Rittger also died, and she remarried in 1794 to Johannes Eifert in Meinhard. She took with her two sons by the Rittger (Johannes & Heinrich) and one son by the Schmidt (Johann Heinrich). She and her new husband are recorded on the 1798 census in Meinhard in Household No. Mn28. Her son Johann Heinrich Schmidt is recorded there in Household No. Mn03.
