Johann Christoph Schmidt, son of Heinrich Schmidt, was born about 1725 in Sprendlingen, Hessen, Germany. He married Susanna Maria Blechschmid, daughter of the deceased Anthon Blechschmid, on 15 April 1749 in Sprendlingen. The baptisms of nine children are recorded in the Sprendlingen records.
The couple arrived in Russia on 13 Sepetmber 1766 with six children. They settled in Frank and are reported on the 1767 census of Frank in Household #61.
