Johann Philipp Roth, son of Johann Martin Roth (d. 12 January 1761), was born on 12 September 1742 in Wenings, about 14 kilometers north-northeast of Büdingen in Hessen.
Johann Philipp and his wife Anna arrived in the Volga German colony of Walter on 10 September 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 Census in Household No. 104. On the 1798 Census, Philipp continues to reside in Walter, recorded in Household No. Wt072.
