Romeis

Johannes Romeis first appears in the Volga German colonies on the 1834 Census of Norka. Igor Pleve reports that he was born in February 1794 in the Moravian colony of Neuwied in what is today the State of Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany. He was first married to Christina (surname unknown) and had four daughters. He married for the second time to Nathalie Früauf on 17 November 1854, and died shortly thereafter in Norka on 20 February 1855. He has no known male descendants, so this surname does not continue among the Volga Germans.
