Description

Hannß Kleinmann and Barbara Häckel married in Kehl, Baden, Germany on 10 August 1760. Hannß Kleinmann was born 28 February and baptized 1 March 1733 in Auenheim, Kehl, Baden, Germany. Barbara Häckel was born 21 December and baptized 23 December 1736 in Wolfisheim, Bas-Rhin, France. Hannß and Barbara had three children, all born and baptized in Auenheim: Johannes, born 20 December and baptized 22 December 1760; Barbara, baptized 19 December 1762 (died 2 May 1763); and Michael, born 2 April, baptized 3 April 1764.

On a list of colonists recruited in 1766, the family members are described as: Hanneß Kleemann, age 32, from Augenheim, his wife Barbara Hägel, age 29, and their sons Hannß Kleemann, age 5, and Michel Kleeman, age 2.

The family arrived in Russia on 18 July 1766. On the arrival list, the family members are listed as Johann Kleemann, a weaver from Hanau, his wife Barbara, and their son Johann, age 6. At the time, Auenheim/Augenheim was in an area formerly known as “Hanauerland” or "Hanau-Lichtenberg". This area is in present-day Baden, but at the time was controlled by the Hessen-Darmstadt Landgraviate.

Johannes Kleemann, his wife Barbara, their 6-year-old son Johannes, and 3-week-old son Michael, are reported on the First Settlers List (1767 Census) of Dietel in Household #8. Their village of origin is incorrectly stated to be "Oberheim" in the published translation.

It appears that both Hannß and Barbara died prior to the 1798 Census. The 1798 Census of Dietel reports their son Johannes Kleimann along with his wife and children, and their son Georg Kleimann along with his wife and children in Household #2. The movement tables in the 1798 Census report that Michael Kleimann moved from Dietel to Hussenbach in 1789. In the 1798 Hussenbach Census, he is reported as a widower with his daughter Katharina Elisabeth, and stepchildren from his wife's previous marriage, in Household #107. The movement tables also report that Sophia Kleimann, a daughter of Johannes Kleimann, moved to Kautz to marry Sebastian Weber in 1792. This couple is reported on the Kautz 1798 Census in Household #20.
