Description

Nicolaus Hoffman was born on 13 Feb 1723, son of Caspar Hoffman and Magdalena Burkart.  Elisabetha Richter was born on 24 Nov 1723, daughter of Hans Richter and Margaretha Klüber.  Nicolaus and Elisabetha married on 9 Feb 1751.  They arrived in Russia on 14 Sep 1766 with six children, all born in Gersfeld on the following dates:  Dorothea, 17 Oct 1752; Johannes, 1 May 1755; Johannes, 2 May 1757; Margaretha, 26 Mar 1759; Anna Eva, 10 Jul 1761; Eva, 24 Sep 1764.  In the baptism records of his children, Nicolaus Hoffman is listed as either a “Schäfer” (a shepherd) or as a “Kühhirt” (a cowherd).  

They settled in Walter with three surviving children and are reported on the First Settler’s List in Family #18.   

Two Hoffmann families from Walter relocated to Brunnental in 1859.
