Johann Ernst Gerlach and his wife Anna Margaretha Heeg married on 10 Feb 1752 in Meerholz. The baptisms of six children are recorded in the Meerholz records: Johann George, born 21 Mar 1753, Georg Philipp, born 5 May 1755, an unnamed daughter born 4 Feb 1758, Anna Catharina, born 20 Apr 1759, Anna Elisabeth, born 10 Apr 1762 (died 16 Oct 1764), and Ernst Heinrich, born 4 Jun 1765.
The couple arrived in Russia on 9 Aug 1766 with three children. They settled in Norka and are reported there on the First Settler's List in Family #124.
