Balthasar Barthuly was born 20 August 1729 in Ruchheim (today in Rheinland-Pfalz) about 10 kilometers west of Mannheim. He married on 10 May 1756 in Lampertheim, Hessen - about 15 kilometers north of Mannheim - to Anna Margaretha Grösser. She was born in Lampertheim on 2 March 1726.
The baptism of one child was recorded in Danish parish records: Johann Martin, baptized 18 February 1761 in Karup Parish, Viborg Amt.
Balthasar & Anna Margaretha immigrated to Denmark (Schleswig Holstein). They left Denmark and arrived in Balzer on 28 August 1765 with two daughters: Elisabeth (age 12) and Apollonia (age 10). They are recorded on the 1767 Census of Balzer in Household No. 1. Balthasar is evidently serving as the vorsteher (mayor) at the time.
