Biography
Vladimir Propp, son of Jakob and Anna Propp of Hussenbach, was a renowned literary scholar who analyzed Russian folk tales. He was born Herrman Waldemar Propp on 17 April 1895 in St. Petersburg where his father was handling the affairs of the Volga German Schmidt brothers. He attended St. Petersburg University from 1913-1918, majoring in Russian and German philology.
He became a faculty member of Leningrad University (formerly St. Petersburg Universitey) in 1932, and remained there until his death on 22 August 1970.
