Biography
Edmund Simon Lorenz, son of Jacob John Lorenz (15 January 1832 - 13 October 1893) and Margaretha Schmidt, was born in Messer on 13 July 1854. He and his parents were Adventists and lived in Dayton, Ohio, after they immigrated to the United States. He attended Otterbein University, Union Biblical Seminary, Yale Theological Seminary, and the University of Leipzig. He served as pastor of the High Street United Brethren Church in Dayton Ohio (1884-1886) and as president of Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pennsylvania (1886-1888).
Lorenz went on to found the Lorenz and Company Music Publishing House in Dayton, Ohio. This eventually became the Lorenz Publishing Company, which is now one of 13 divisions of The Lorenz Corporation. Geoffrey Lorenz, his great grandson, is currently president of The Lorenz Corporation.
