Norka Records

By Maggie Hein | June 27, 2024 | Russian Records

Norka was one of the largest Volga German settlements, with many descendants of that settlement interested in exploring their genealogy.  Many of the people who have helped maintain this website over the years have ancestral connections to, or a research interest in, Norka.

Lucky for us, there is a significant collection of Norka records that have survived, and many of those records have been obtained by the Norka Research Team.

Who is the Norka Research Team?

  • Roger Burbank, Norka Village Coordinator
  • Louis Schleuger, Norka Database Administrator
  • Steve Schreiber, Norka Website Administrator
  • Maggie Hein, German Origin research

If you need any help researching your Norka ancestors, we'll do what we can to help. We are all volunteers, so help from us is completely free of charge.

What records do we have?

There is a comprehensive list of all of the Norka records that have been acquired on the Norka website here: https://www.norkarussia.info/research-resources.html

When you browse through that list, you will see a wide variety of different types of records covering the history of Norka, from the German Origin locations of the settlers who arrived in 1767 to the Deportation of the population in 1941. We have some of these documents in our possession, some are documents that others have obtained. Many items are translated from their original language (German or Russian), and some of those translations are available online. If you have ancestors from Norka, please review the list of what is available.

How do I get started with researching my Norka ancestors?

The Norka website has a page that covers that topic here: https://www.norkarussia.info/family-research.html

In addition to some general advice about getting started with family research, there are links to contact Louis or Roger by e-mail, and links to Roger's Facebook Page.

Please feel free to contact any of us directly if you need help researching your Norka ancestors.
